5) Adelaide Scholarships International (ASI) – University of Adelaide

Value: Course tuition fees for two years for a Masters degree by Research and three years for a Doctoral research degree (an extension is possible for doctoral programs only). 6) SAMRO – Postgraduate Bursaries for Indigenous African Music

About Since 1981, SAMRO has offered a number of bursaries for music students. These Bursaries constitute the most substantial awards in music study in South Africa and are open to citizens of all the countries within SAMRO’s territory of operation: South Africa, Botswana, Lesotho and Swaziland.

Who Can Apply For Honours, Masters and Doctorate level. The Bursaries are for full-time students at a South African University, doing research work in Indigenous African Music and are open to citizens of all the countries within SAMRO’s territory of operation: South Africa, Botswana, Lesotho and Swaziland.

8) Ernest Oppenheimer Memorial Trust Fund (Support for Local Postgraduates) Bursary

About The Oppenheimer Memorial Trust (OMT) awards a limited number of scholarships each year for postgraduate study at Master’s, Doctoral and Postdoctoral level in any discipline.

Who Can Apply South African nationals are eligible to apply and preference is given to candidates with a proven record of academic excellence, coupled with financial need, who intend to pursue careers in academia, research or related fields.

9) Mandela Rhodes Foundation Bursary

About The Mandela Rhodes Scholarships aim to help in building leadership excellence in Africa. A Mandela Rhodes Scholarship is more than a bursary, though the costs of Scholars are generously covered during their period of study. The Mandela Rhodes Foundation offers young Africans who exhibit academic prowess as well as broader leadership potential an educational opportunity unique on the continent. While pursuing their chosen post-graduate degree, each Scholar benefits from access to leadership development programmes, rooted in the principles underpinning the Foundation.

Who Can Apply The Mandela Rhodes scholarship is open to postgraduate students. It is a requirement of the Mandela Rhodes Scholarships that all applicants are citizens of African countries. All applicants must provide a certified copy of their South African ID or passport attached to the application form. Applicants should either be nominated by (your) university or tertiary institution or may be self-nominated by applying directly to the MRF.

Value Tuition and accommodation fees are paid direct to the university, while allowances for prescribed books, travelling, living and other expenses are paid direct to the student, unless arranged otherwise.

10) Mintek (Postgraduate Bursary)

About Mintek’s Postgraduate Bursary Programme further equips undergraduates through the development of research methodology skills at the Masters level, followed by the generation of original research that contributes new knowledge to a field at the Doctoral level. Bursars are also given the opportunity to work closely with some of the world’s foremost researchers, learn more about other scientific divisions at Mintek and become involved in interesting research.

Value Bursaries cover the full payment of registration, tuition and residence fees, plus an allowance, in return for a commitment to work at Mintek on a month-for-month basis.

12) National Arts Council of SA (Post-graduate) Bursary

About The NAC is a national agency mandated by the Department of Arts and Culture, with the responsibility of developing South Africa’s creative industry by awarding grants to individuals and organisations in the arts. The bursaries are allocated to postgraduate students studying in the arts. Postgraduate students apply directly to the NAC . The NAC operates by inviting applicants to submit their project proposals and applications for bursaries once per annum, in which an independent panel of experts in each of the seven arts disciplines adjudicates on each application and makes recommendations to council.

17) SAAWG (Female Awards for Postgraduate) Bursary

Company South African Association of Women Graduates

About The SAAWG administers a number of partial bursaries and Fellowship awards for South African female student who as completed an undergraduate degree and want to do postgraduate studies.

The awards include the following:

Bertha Stoneman Award: For a female undertaking postgraduate studies / research in botany, natural sciences or related studies (including environmental studies).
Annual Value: R2 000.00.

Isie Smuts Award: For a female undertaking postgraduate studies / research in any field (option for renewal).
Annual Value: R1 300.00.

Mary Agard Pocock Award: For a female undertaking postgraduate studies / research in botany, natural sciences or related studies (including environmental studies).

About Sasol Post Graduate Bursaries are awarded for full-time University study in Science and Engineering, at Masters or Ph.D Degree level.

Who Can Apply Full-time university study in Science and Engineering, at Masters or Ph.D Degree level. (Students interested in a Honours Degree or 4th year studies should select Undergraduate studies, with the relevant year of study). Please note that Commerce post graduate bursaries are not supported at this stage. Students and their prospective supervisors are encouraged to contact the Sasol personnel to discuss their interests and to gain further insights into the type of research, future direction and opportunities within such technologies.
