ABOUT THE SITFE BURSARY

The SITFE bursary is aimed at students who are studying/ wish to study within the Agriculture, Science and Engineering fields OR students who are children of sugarcane farm workers. The bursary is administrated by the South African Sugar Association
 

Shortlisted candidates will be contacted in January and be required to attend an interview process in January/ February. If you have not received any feedback regarding your application by 31 January, then please accept that your application was not successful.

WHO CAN APPLY FOR THE SITFE BURSARY

Students must meet the following minimum requirements before submitting their application – failure to meet all the requirements will result in an unsuccessful application:

  • Must be a South African citizen
  • Must be in Matric or must have completed Matric
  • Must have applied or registered to study towards a qualification in one of the fields listed above OR must be a child of a sugarcane farm worker and have applied or registered to study in any field
  • Must be studying at one of these preferred institutions: University of Johannesburg/ University of Witwatersrand/ University of Pretoria/ University of KwaZulu-Natal/ University of Cape Town/ University of the Western Cape/ University Stellenbosch/ University of Fort Hare/ University of Zululand/ Rhodes University/ Sol Plaatje University/ University of Mpumalanga/ Tshwane University of Technology/ Durban University of Technology/ Mangosuthu University of Technology/ Cedara College of Agriculture/ Owen Sithole College of Agriculture
  • Preference will be given to students from rural areas

 

HOW TO APPLY FOR THE SITFE BURSARY

Please ensure that you attach copies of these documents when applying (as a minimum):

  • South African Identity Document (certified copy)
  • Proof of connection to the sugar industry (if applicable)
  • Proof of parents/ guardians income (latest payslip/ pension statement, affidavit if unemployed, death certificate if deceased)
  • Proof of registration or application to study at one of the institutions listed above
  • Latest Matric progress report (current Matric students)
  • Matric certificate/ final results (if completed Matric)
  • Tertiary exam results (if at tertiary level)

Students will be shortlisted based on their mid-year exam results and final selection will be determined by your final exam results.
